There is plenty of different Houseleeks species and even more garden cultivars. They occurs from Central and South Europe to Morocco, Iran and through the mountains of Iberia, the Alps, Carpathians to the Balkan mountains, Turkey, the Armenian mountains, in the northeastern part of the Sahara Desert, and the Caucasus. Their ability to store water in their thick leaves allows them to live on sunny rocks and stony places in the mountain, subalpine and alpine belts. Houseleeks grow as rosettes. Each rosette propagates asexually by lateral rosettes or sexually by tiny seeds. The flowers are usually pink but also whit and yellowish flowers can be found. They are very suitable for any rock garden, wall and dry, sunny area. Exceptionally great as well in a pot or at the edge of the flowerbed on sunny, sandy position.
