Iris Ensata Dinner Plate Tub Tim Grob is a breathtaking Japanese water iris with large, delicate flowers that resemble fine porcelain dinner plates. The petals boast a stunning purple-pink hue with intricate lavender veins and soft yellow flares at the base, creating an eye-catching contrast. This mid-season bloomer graces gardens with its wide, double blooms, measuring up to 15 cm across, during the summer months of June and July.
Iris Ensata Dinner Plate Tub Tim Grob thrives best in moist environments, making it ideal for damp borders, pond edges, or even waterlogged soils. Also can grow in common garden soil if not very dry. The elegant, lance-shaped green foliage adds texture to the garden even when not in bloom. Deer-resistant and easy to care for, this rhizomatous perennial will be a centerpiece in any gartden and espetialy water garden, thriving in full sun and consistently moist soil.
How to grow Japanese iris
Iris ensata is a full-sun iris growing naturally in open wet fields in eastern Asia. Iris ensata has a vertical growth habit like most other iris species. Its large flowers come in different shades of blue. It needs to be grown in an acid humus-rich soil, with regular watering between early March and the end of July. Iris ensata can be planted in a sunny place in the garden, at the banks of a pond or slow flowing streams, or in wet places that are not flooded during the winter. It may prove necessary to cover the young plants through the first winter (with mulch, straw or bark shavings etc.) especially in the case of late planting.
