Buffalo Hosta

Hostas with the Buffalo prefix represent a unique collection of our own cultivars, developed through years of dedication and passion by Milan and Dana Zúbrik from Žiar nad Hronom, Slovakia. These are original varieties you won’t find anywhere else in the world – bred exclusively for our company Eurohosta and, as the only Slovak hostas, officially registered with the prestigious American Hosta Society (AHS).

We have been growing hostas since 2000 and started hybridizing them around 2010. Our collection includes over 1,600 different cultivars, and in addition to breeding, we also propagate and sell hostas. Currently, we cultivate around 100,000 plants in 1-liter pots across our production areas. Each Buffalo hosta undergoes a long selection and testing process lasting 6 to 10 years – we evaluate growth, vigor, resilience, and ornamental value under Central European conditions.

For practical reasons, these cultivars carry English names beginning with the Buffalo prefix – a playful reference to the English translation of our surname, “Zúbrik.” This name connects our family identity with the world of horticulture and creates a memorable brand.
