Hosta Days 2020 were held under strict sanitary conditions on June 12 and 13, 2020 in our city flower shop in Žiar nad Hronom on Jánskeho street. That space is not big enough to show you all our hostas, so we selected 200-250 cultivars, offering a few of each for sale. This year we divided our small outdoor space into 3 parts. “Hostas for collectors”, “Hostas with red legs” and “Hostas for the garden”. All three sectors had their own fanbase…

The “Hostas for collectors” corner offered some streaked hostas, as well as some rare and new hosta varieties. In addition to streaked cultivars (H. Buffalo Bill, H. Kiyosumi Seiryu, H. Buffalo Black Soup, H. Dorset Clown, H. Kaleidochrome, H. Striped Weasel, H. Splashed Leather, H. Neat Splash and others), visitors could enjoy and buy several rare plants such as H. First Blush, H. The Queen, H. Proud Treasure, H. Woop Woop, H. Kempen Waving Shadow, H. Royal Tiara, H. Zebra Stripes and some more. Visitors were also attracted by the collection of small hostas from the “Mouse” series, and whoever wished so, could enlarge their collection with H. Smiling Mouse, H. Mighty Mouse, H. Lucky Mouse, H. Snow Mouse, H. Desert Mouse or more. Plants in this sector were available only in small numbers - often only 1 or 2 pieces.

Among the hostas with red legs, the selection was much richer, and around 30-40 cultivars were available. This sector was full or nice and often rare plants like a H. Secret Treasure, H. Almost, H. Delicious, H. Sugar Plum, H. Fruit Punch, H. Holar Garnet Grow, H. Holar Red Wine, H. Mango Salsa and many, many more.

The widest offer of different hosta varieties was definitely in the section “ Hostas for the garden “, encompassing more than 150 different beautiful garden perennials with colorful leaves. Customers were especially interested in cultivars such as H. June, H. Great Expectation, H. Halcyon, H. Blue Angel, H. Grand Tiara, H. Blue Mouse Ears...

We were impressed and honored to see how many of you came to see the exhibited plants. Friends from the Facebook pages, gentlemen from Pezinok, hobby gardeners from Nitra, regular visitors from different regions of the country like Prievidza, Žilina, Orava, or from other parts of Slovakia, our friends from Czech Republic etc. We spent two wonderful days with hosta lovers. Everybody shared tips on growing hostas, offering many new ideas. Many questions were asked but also many answers were given. Time flows so fast in such fruitful discussions… Whatever we did not solve this year, we will certainly solve next year… Thank you all for visiting us and we are already looking forward to meeting you next year again.
